At a preview of the film in Orange County California in 2003, screenwriter John August told producers Cohen and Jinks that the characters "sang to him." Now they do. August also said, "I don't doubt that I will probably be writing some version of 'Big Fish' for the rest of my life, even if it's the Ukraine trapeze version."

That's another story.
