Message:  In 2004, the Olympic Games will return
to Athinai, in Greece, their sacred birthplace.
I can see them now running through the streets
of the Plaka and Monostirikon, with Zeus and Socrates and Plato and Hippocrates judging the latest Aphrodite as she does the gymnastic dances on the floor of the old amphitheatre. Did you know that in the very first Olympic Games all of the athletes competed in the nude? It's true, it's true. There wasn't a big deal about it in those days. But, I am led to believe by ouzo-addled historians, there was a problem with the baton pass in the men's 4x100 relay and so, from that day forward, the athletes were forced to wear the colors of their individual countries. Does anyone know of this historical tidbit? What I would like to know is this: Considering the incredible coverage the Olympic Games now receive, which stupid country screwed up in the 4x100 in that First Olympiad? Which idiots have cost us, the viewers, this golden opportunity to see the Games as they were meant to be seen? Ah, that it were now as it was then...the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, and the glory of the slow-motion instant replay...
