"What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas," the salesman said.
"Yeah, right" I snapped. "You think I want to live in Vegas forever?" |

Martina asked me if you could hear the sound of One heart breaking If there was no one there to care.
I said that the movement of the air from One hand clapping could cause a Hurricane on the other side of The Earth.
She said What little mind you had left When I first met you Has gone totally mad.
I said, Yes, I've noticed, But it's the only charming quality I still have... |

I stared at the empty scarlet stained glass and realized that the wine was gone. It wouldn't be long before sunrise, so I walked out and sat on the porch swing to hear the birds start their singing, so I could sit there and watch the dawn and wish I were somewhere else. I'm not sure where I wish I was. Maybe I wish I were where you are. But, I don't really know where you are, and two people in different places can't be at the same place in one moment in time. I don't know why I didn't just go to sleep last night instead of sitting up and longing for you and remembering, remembering, remembering ........ things that maybe didn't really happen anyway. I wish I were somewhere else. And I wish you were there with me. But, two people in different places can't be together. And the empty glass will soon be filled again.

I'm waiting for the faults to slip or thrust To rush across the bittersweet Border Hand-made house at the end of a road Beside the dream-sheened ocean Salt spray and night-long constellations Your mouth of lime invention The ice around your fingers Beginning to melt Your eyes Two resolute shadows

She came thru the darkness And she gave me the first kiss That I'd had in over a year She asked if I missed us Did I have any new loves My eyes started filling with tears I said You're the only Girl that I wanted Without you I haven't a prayer I started out slowly Treating her holy Then I said all I'd wanted to share.
I so missed your cooking And spending time looking Into your face evry night I missed all your laughing And all the time having The feeling evrything's alright I missed your sweet ways And spending those Saturdays Drunk just from your perfume That thrill of excitement I always got whenever You would walk in the room.
And she said...
You can walk on without me You deserve to be free Stop carrying me down the road Feel the wind on your face Enjoy running the race Lay down your heavy load Walk on without me See all that you can be Life will never be the same Fly on with new wings Discover some new things Flying close to the flame.
Tell me all of your stories And all of your glories Don't worry we've got all night She held me in her embrace I felt her perfect grace It seemed evrything was all right We layed in each other's arms So far from any harm Not wanting to think of the dawn I awoke to the empty bed I shook my tired head I looked around she was gone.
And she said...
You can walk on without me You deserve to be free Stop carrying me down the road Feel the wind on your face Enjoy running the race Lay down your heavy load Walk on without me See what you can be Life will never be the same Fly on with new wings Discover the new things Flying close to the flames...

This is the number. This is the door. This is Adam with his light two-knuckle knocking. A shatter of sleep then. An original dream. His rib cage rising and falling. "I know everything about you," he says the next/first morning, leaning up on one predestined elbow. Twist of sheets on his side kicked free. Dawn light coming into the scheme of it. |

Scent of Emaraude mixing with the lilacs. Beach on Martha's Vineyard at sunset, surrounded by flat-headed Beetlebung and Menemsha trees. Tanned skin making her white dress glow as the tide comes in. Last dance with her in the wet sand before running away to California and the rest of my life...

Rock Star. It traveled 105 miles over 11 nights at a top speed of 8 mph. From the desert's edge in Riverside to mid-Wilshire in downtown LA. It arrived Saturday morning at 4:25am to thunderous applause from a cheering crowd. 340 tons, 2 stories high. $70 thousand for the rock, $10 million for the project. "It looks a lot bigger in the city than it did in the quarry," said Michael Govan, Los Angeles County Museum Director. Visitors will be able to walk through a slot with the 680 thousand pounds of granite suspended 15 feet over their heads. The rock made the trip "shrink wrapped". |

Jonmark- Reading the Old Blue Boards this rainy Saint Patrick's afternoon. All that love and history. Deep breath, now. A break in the storm and a chance to run out and grab the mail. Two hummingbirds on the feeder...like they have all the time in the world. I miss Mick every day. I thought it would get easier. You and Bree, be well. Love, Ro |

Does the soul take wing and leave the body When the heart gets broken and lost? Is what started out as a rolling stone Planted and covered with moss? Anguish and passion take time to get over Is there ever a good time to sleep? The clock ticks so loud at midnite Are the memories buried too deep?
If the Gods gave you forever Could you do it without a heart? Eternity's not somewhere waiting Weren't the whispers there from the start? The magic in music is silent Do stars only shine in the dark? Did you think the beauty inside her eyes Would finally light your last spark?
How many times can you stumble? Does the river know it's nearing the falls? While the questions steal the nights away The days give you nothing at all. The feel and the touch of a lover The fragrance and taste that you crave They linger in wisps of memory Do they laugh at you from the grave?
If the Gods gave you forever Could you do it without a heart? Eternity's not somewhere waiting Weren't the whispers there from the start? Anguish and passion take time to get over Is there ever a good time to sleep? The clock ticks so loud at midnite Are the memories buried too deep?
The magic in music is silent Do stars only shine in the dark? Did you think the beauty inside her eyes Would finally light your last spark?

I'm hitchin a ride to redemption On this dark, hot July night The quarter moon's three nickels short The neon's not much light Townes and Zevon feed the engine Newbury's driving this old train I find myself smilin a bit As the sky begins to rain
It seems the rails end up ahead But Mickey only smiles He's made this trip many a time His soul's walked evry mile So many times I needed an ace But only drew a seven Tonight's the night I win the pot Headin for the last bar in Heaven
At the last bar in Heaven The shows they never end At the last bar in Heaven You can always find a friend At the last bar in Heaven There's no one getting stoned At the last bar in Heaven It always feels like home
Seems the old friends always find me When the darkness fills my soul It doesn't take but a song or two And I'm feeling almost whole Forgiveness and redemption's What my old heart needs tonight This train I'm on will carry me From the darkness to the light
At the last bar in Heaven The shows will never end At the last bar in Heaven You can always find a friend At the last bar in Heaven There's no one getting stoned At the last bar in Heaven It always feels like home
At the last bar in Heaven The shows they never end At the last bar in Heaven You'll always have a friend

You were standing at the table with coffee...eating strawberries and snapping my recipe cards like a hand of Solitaire. "Hah! Red-eye gravy on Black Forest Cake!" You grinned and flexed the deck like a riverboat gambler. It was February and the first strawberries were out of the fields for Valentine's Day dipped in chocolate. There were glass beads strung on fish line trembling in the kitchen window. Scribbles of wispy fog between the house and the ocean. The hush and refracted light from all that condensed moisture. "...we're in the clouds," you said, and closed your eyes. |

Years they pass, scars they show, redemption draweth nigh If it wasn't for the moonlight no one would see us cry Love comes to town once or twice sometimes it even stays Like the circus, roll the tents, the clown's the one who pays.

She crawled into his bed from the corner of his mind. The piper played, the couples danced, the music struck him blind. Milk and honey filled the days, coke and whiskey fueled the nights They tore down all their castle walls They kicked out all the pretty footlights

April is Poe month in San Diego. A month-long Shades of Poe Festival sponsored by the SD City Library and Write Out Loud. Dramatic readings at selected trolley stops. Last stop is Historic Old Town. "...But we loved with a love that was more than love..." performed by a theatre group in raven-black across the street from Whaley House, the most haunted house in North America. I LOVE POE tee shirts for sale at Bazaar del Mundo. One listener says, "I love Poe! He's totally awesome! Crazy-dark before dark was cool!" Wonder what Poe has to say about that... |
