| I received a great letter from Billy Arr...here is a portion of what he wrote...
Hey Y'all, Wanda and I had such a great time at the Gathering last June that I just had to pass this along to anyone who may be interested in going next year....
We all stay and the same hotel, the Howard Johnson in North Austin, (very nice and extermely reasonable rates for summertime in Austin.) And, since the Gathering is now in it's 7th year, the Hotel staff knows many of us by our first names and pretty much give us the run of the place.
The price of your registration covers two meals a day and attendence to all the hoursof entertainment each day, including the "writers in the round" sessions where there's usually snacks, beer, and soft drinks at various rooms around the hotel, including the bar and lobby, and last year we had some great ones at Poolside.
So you just look for open doors, and move from room to room until you land on something to GOOD to leave.
The stage entertainment, all very well done and coordinated, with great lighting and sound, begins about 11 every morning (this can vary, but two in the afternoon is average)(my note), with a lineup of great musicians, pickers-grinners and many "hit writers", from a little bit of everywhere....
Mickey's family is always there, Mom, brother, wife, daughters, sons (they sing on the shows and in the rounds as well). You never really know who will show up, especially if they live in or near Texas. But, in any case, no matter WHO they are, they are THERE for Mickey.
Each day is different from the other, so I suggest you stay for the duration....
Mickey was my Good and Dear Friend, but even if he had never been, I still would have been one of his biggest fans, a FOREVER "Mickey Newbury Groupie"
Hope to see Y'all there. Wanda says Hi.
Billy's letter was much longer, but I've never figured out how to cut and paste...so I left out some of the super things he wrote. I believe you get the idea. So this thread is started by Billy...and I hope others will provide their reviews...good and bad...here.
"Good" because it will make others want to come and "Bad" because it let's us know what we need to do to correct a problem.
