The fried pies were fantastic, and the motel was great, but it was sooooooo far. I hope that is not the reason so many of the family was awol this time. We need to get some output from them. And it is certainly not too soon to start planning for next year. Susi, I want to be the first to offer my help. Hugs.

I enjoyed almost everything about Gathering 2009...the hotel (better floor plan & cleaner)...(terrific pool & courtyard)...Gainesville ...the table seating...the friendly & helpful hotel staff...the ability to walk to many restaurants & town...CW's webcast.

Most of all, this wonderful family that has grown each year. I didn't leave until Monday and was saddened at how quiet and empty the hotel was compared to the electric atmosphere during the Gathering. I was looking forward to next year and this year had hardly even ended. I'm honored to be a part of it.

Please...if nothing else, let's set the actual dates that the Gathering will be held...NOW! Reserve the hotel. Pin down the dates. Everything else can be done down the road, but people really need to plan ahead.

A few minor negatives: The Guitar Pull Rooms (#155) were way too small and claustrophobic. It would be easy to hold them in the Main Concert Ballroom (in the back). More people would fit in...food service is right next door...it would probably be cooler.

Set a price (say $55.00) and then offer a discount ($47.00 if paid in advance by end of April 2010). Its truely not fair to ask the planners to pay out-of-pocket and then hope to get reimbursed.

Don't add names to the list of attendees until they have paid the admission or reserved a room with the hotel. The planners base their purchases on the number they believe will be there.

We really need to get more people to attend! The performers will be easier to get if there is more exposure for them. The audience will be happier with more performers. See! Everyone is happier!

Everyone coming should convince at least one newcomer to come with them.

That's my story...and I'm stickin' to it!

Finest kind,
Dale

I agree with Dale, Why can't we prepay? How much easier it would be for all who put out the money for the use of the equip, promotionial things like the t-shirts, bags, printing programs and the like. No one should be out of pocket for the above things and every year it seems that someone is in the hole for no good reason. None of us are rich and all of us who attend are going to spend whatever it is we have for that event anyway, so why not let us pay in advance, so we do not have to pay so much at one time hurts a little less that way.
anyway as Dale says
"Thats my story and I'm sticking to it"
It does not matter to me in the least as to the location, Gainesville was perfect other than it was further than what we are used to. I loved the hotel and the walking distance to other places was wonderful. However I think I'll drive to the Ihop instead of walkin

When you pay your registration.....you get a name tag. No one should be able to come into the performing area or eat with us who doesn't wear one. I heard Doug say this one time and it seems easy enough. Why would you NOT wear your name tag? It is a collectable.

Karen, I agree but it is almost impossible to monitor unless there is a 'guard' at the door Many do not wear their name tags for whatever reason.

I hear someone calling my name. I NEVER wear a name tag. I didn't realize it could cause confusion. I'll try to do better in the future. SO, My suggestion is to have them show SOMRTHING showing they have registered before they eat.

"Badges! We don't need no steenkin' badges"!!!
(I don't always wear my name tag either. And I am not going to police the door either.) I personally have no problem with folks stopping by to see what a Gathering is all about. Actually, I would encourage it!

Getting down to brass tacks...

I really don't see where the aversion is to pre-registering. Many folks that organize the Gatherings put up their own money to get them off the ground. For instance, the T-shirts have to be paid for up front and are paid for "up front" . Others donate time and their own funds along the way. The food is bought before it is "paid for" by the Gathering.

It would be much easier to budget if there were pre-registrations. To me, it just makes sense.

Now, to find a couple of trustworthy individuals...Oh, nevermind! Let's not pre-register!

Craig

(Maybe this is a topic that should handled via email)

DITTO (to all the above). I wouldn't mind pre-paying. I mean, we have to (sort-of) pre-pay in making travel and hotel accommodations, don't we? And as for eating, maybe a cost-per-non-registered-'guest'?

Got my sights on NEXT year, for our Gathering X!! Sure did miss seein' ya'll. Missed bein' in Texas in June (storms 'n' all).

Especially missing my special characters ... my San Antonio Roses (Shirley, Lib, and Bobbie Rae), my Alaska Mooseketeer, my Boston Baked Bling, the Weatherman and his right-hand gal(!), Erik the Viking, Texas Granny-goose, Deputy Dawg and Kap'n Koala, the Viceroy of Cave Creek, my Roomie Lee, the two Edelweisers, Larry Blue Belle, that shameless Hussy, Susie-Q, the Pipsqueek, Joe the Tally-man, Jon-Boy and his Lady Brie, Papa and Meme, the Cat and BBQ, Dale of Hamil's Town, and them Newbury gals (Mamie, Susie, Leah & Laura)!

I probably forgot some of ya --- "senior moments" I guess. Consider yerself lucky,

cuz

As I've said before, We would love to have everyone in Gainesville again. But that depends on the majority of people who want to come back. For those of you who didn't attend, it was magical. Each gathering is different in it's own way and Gathering lX was no exception. The hotel has the 4th of July weekend open and the weekend afterward. We have to have it after the 18th of June because the Newbury ladies will be in school until after that day. Hope I"m correct on that date. I'd like to get some input from the performers. Love all of you.
Hugs,
Susie g

Feeding people who did not pay is something we should make sure doesn't happen. But as for the music, we should encourage anyone who wants to hear to be there. This is, after all not an MJ event but
a celebration of the music that brought us all together.(for some)
I really liked Gainseville because it's not a big City. While Austin was always a good event, even with a rental car I always feel trapped in the Motel. I'd go back to Gainseville in a heartbeat.
Austin too, but I live in a huge mtreo area and really don't enjoy spending time in others.

I agree Ernie, we had a per day charge in place this year but when people don't stop by the registration table, it is not possible.
As for the dates, any time after June 25-26 is good for me personally; afterall I don't want to miss the "half century" class runion

I received the following from Koala Kenny; with his permission below are his thoughts.
quote:

I thought it was very nice......as it always is. That being said; I thought this hotel, staff, and accommodations were exemplary. Like you said; they really outdid themselves trying to see to all our needs. The layout of the hotel was particularly pleasing to me........no more searching in a maze to find your destination. A smaller; more personal hotel is ideal for this type of event. The close proximity of eating places, shopping, and the general, small-town feel of the place is phenomenal I think I'd have preferred rectangular tables to round ones for ease of viewing the acts......but the round ones are an improvement over chairs in a row. I like where the shows were performed.........doesn't seem to have the major problems with light getting in through the doors and ruining the video. I like that the hotel is very easy to find and not in the middle of downtown of a major city. One of the only complaints I'd lodge, is with the "Continental Breakfast". Now; I realize, for the price; we've got to make a few sacrifices. With the food joints so close though, I guess it's not a major complaint in the grand scheme of things. The performances more personal & heartfelt........closer knit...........maybe I'm wrong about that, but it's my impression right now. I believe that all who pitched in to make it a success, did a marvelous job..........didn't skip a beat. I did miss some of our old buddies.............Virginia & Joey, to name a couple........and of course, Egbert, Jackie, Sam, and many more........the list goes on. Perhaps next year. I've heard there's an effort to search in the Houston area for a hotel. Of course; that'd be much more convenient for Mamie as well as a number of us as well. But; honestly.......I'm not seeing any hotel in that area beating the prices, accommodations, and overall experience we can get in Gainesville. It'll be MIGHTY difficult to find anything even remotely equivalent, much less better. I believe the Gathering has found a home for the foreseeable future. Gainesville has my vote.........for what that's worth
