While we were away: At Huntington Beach forty cowboys, nine cattle dogs, and one hundred steers hit the high tide mark at 7am. The cowboys in Stetsons, jeans, boots, and bandanas, wraparound sunglasses and tropical shirts. Four news helicopters overhead. One wrangler from the Longboard Cowboys remembered; "I left Huntington in a Chevy in '66 and came back on a mule. That mule wears a bandana that reads, NEVER SURF DOWNSTREAM FROM THE HERD. At the Pier the steers were loaded in cattle trucks and driven to Costa Mesa to run through the streets, Pamplona-style for the opening of the Orange County Fair. Yee Haw!
