Terry, you aren't alone in discovering a talent like Newbury that way. I was listening to a country station and some DJ was interviewing him. He talked about Kris Kristopherson whom I also liked and was interested. When he sang, Frisco Mabel Joy I was almost in tears with the passion he sang into the song. I went looking for his records and finally found the Frisco album and later when Heaven Help the Child got some airplay I got that album. I always go through the newpapers on Sunday looking for performances I might like here in the San Francisco Bay area and it was about 10 years I spotted the ad that said Mickey was coming to San Francisco's Great American Music Hall. I got there early and the place was jammed with his admirers. The place was so crowded the waitress never got to us to take orders but I got the greatest performance I have ever seen. He and Marie Rhines played their hearts out for us. Now, I am a committed fan and will be in Austin in June come Hell and high water (which we had last year).
