| Message: | I had the pleasure of Bill calling the house...... Pleasure???? Never thought I'd use that word in the same sentence that had Bill Smith in it. Anyway I wasn't home, when he called, but when Suzette told me he called, I immediately called him back. Now, we all know the circumstances and everything, ....... BUT......... we spent a lot of time laughing. Think about it: We talked about Doug Mills, Ernie Bunch and Dave Franklin. How do you talk about those guys and not laugh? We talked about how Doug Mills always told everyone that I took money out of the urinal at Camp Street Cafe, for my daughter's college tuition. Hey, you seen the price of tuition, even at a small college? We also talked about Ernie and the first time he ever sang at one of the gatherings. HE SUCKED! He didn't know the words or the chords or what planet he was on. But we also talked about how good Ernie has become and Mickey would be proud of how he presents Mick's songs. Then there's Franklin. My goodness , you could make fun of that S.O.B. and laugh about him, all night...... and never one time tell a lie about it. I think that Dave was the only recipient of the " F " word. You know, like in funny. Come to think of it, I think I made fun of Dave with three people today, one being Mamie. Laughter is a break and gets your mind off of things, but, you always have to come back to reality. Porch Friends, Bill is hurting, but he is totally brave and strong and willing for Gods will to be done, without any anger. He's a hero of mine, right now. When I called he said he was looking at pictures of Chip, when he was a kid. There was deep emotional love and pride in his voice as he spoke of Chip. I' ve heard the same kind of love in the voices of many of you guys that have lost a child. And the people that I know that are in that unfortunate " club" are Giants , in my eyes. It's an honor to know them and to hope to have a part of their character rub off on me. We're all behind you Billy Boy. You're much loved, LL |
