| Message: | I don't remember the last time I heard or read anyone claim that a songwriter's lyric was wrong. Unusual comment, for sure, and it made me laugh. There are certainly a few dozen country artists whose lyrics are gag-inducing, but I wouldn't say they're wrong, just pandering, embarrassing. I wouldn't include Kristofferson in that group. His use of the word freedom (lower case 'f') in the context of Me And Bobbie McGee has to do with two down-on-their-luck hitchhikers and the man's feelings after Bobbie had drifted away from him. As for Craig posting his KK quote on September 11th, well, I didn't assume any kind of connection with the history of that date, in the USA or Chile. Some songs do have political stances in them, but I'd be wary of assigning them to songs that don't. Dammit, am I going to have to go through all of my songs now and see if I've been wrong all along? La da da la la da na na, la da na na na, la da da me and Bobbie McGee... I hope I got that right. :-) |
