I've got live coverage outside my front door! :)
It isn't that bad at all yet. It is now 5:30pm CDT and nothing but a hint of a breeze. The storm surge in Galveston is hitting the seawall. It is not as bad as it was this morning. The entire island was under water, albeit a few inches. High tide will be at 3 or 4 Saturday morning. For those that were told to evacuate and didn't in the low-lying areas, they have been told that they face "certain death" and if they call 911 there will no response. (No one can be FORCED to evacuate in Texas, even under a so-called mandatory evacuation.) In these areas, there is no way out. Interstate 45 is underwater around the Kon Tiki area, just this side of Galveston after crossing the causeway that connects the mainland to the island. There is also no way out of Freeport, where LL grew up.
I spoke with my father yesterday and asked him if he was glad that he no longer lived on the Bolivar Peninsula. He paused and then said, Well, I can't argue with you. I am glad that I don't have a house down there right now. Would you pray for my neighbors down there?"
