We did not have damage beyond some tree limbs on the ground but a huge cotton wood tree in a neighbor's yard came crashing down on the highline wires and broke two utility poles and split another. Our entire block was instantly without power at 3:31 a.m.

About 10 hours later knights in shining hard hats arrived and told us they would be working day and night until power was restored. They were true to their word and I gotta tell you to watch these men go about their work with such can-do and know-how makes me proud to be an American.

They were able to use a cherry picker truck to reach the top of the poles at the street but not the one in the corner of my back year. A workman put on spiked boots and climbed up to wrestle with a transformer about 10 last night. At one point, as my son Jason and I watched from my back yard another worker called up to the man on the pole asking if he wanted to take a break but he just said, "No, I'm fine."

They finished the job this afternoon with no fanfair at all and took no time for bows, just headed for the next job. I wish I could have been playing Merle Haggard's "Working Man Blues" for them as they left.

I didn't get to say a personal thank you to them but will say a public, thanks, guys. And thanks Karen for calling and thanks Roy for caring. Hope everyone is doing ok.
