| Subject: | Re: Crank Up The Wheel! Vern Pilder |
| Message: | Vern's open-heart surgery last Monday was followed by a 3-day coma, during which he breathed on his own only at about 70%. He is recognizing people now and responding but still cannot speak, due to the breathing apparatus in his throat. Here's the next challenge: He apparently had a series of mini-strokes during the surgery which have dramatically affected his left side. His cardiologist (who did a fine job on Vern's heart) is quite pessimistic about chances for stroke recovery, but we have yet to hear from the neurologist who ordered the MRI performed earlier today. Current information in that particular hospital is very slow and difficult to come by, even for Vern's wife Sharon. She is forced to camp out in the family waiting room, and receives no news until she can see him during the very limited time they allow her -- provided there is a doctor availabe. (They did not even call her when he first opened his eyes. I would have been furious.) 'Saints" Joe & Darlene Spivey are keeping vigil with her. Please pray for both of them. It's going to be a long journey back to his guitar. Cards would be nice, too. Vernon Pilder St. Thomas Hospital 4220 Harding Rd. Pod G Nashville, TN 37205 |
