Life can be so heartbreaking. My Mom is in adult day care several days a week, and we now have home health aides coming in to help Dad at nights while we're looking at nursing homes for her. I have a feeling Dad will keep her at home till he has almost no money left, but we do need to have some money to get her into a nursing home because I doubt many want to take people who are already on Medicaid from the start.
The other day, Mom cried when the van came to lift her up to take her to day care and told my Dad she'd rather stay home with him. Today, while they were waiting for the van, she asked him if she would ever see him again. This must be what it's like to send your child off to pre-school, except things can only get worse with Alzheimer's... it will never get more comfortable for Mom or less scary, I don't think. Aging is not for the faint of heart. |
