| Message: | Mickey was quite ill then and his singing was labored. For studio recordings he could pick his moment and try several takes. Even then, it was more his desire to preserve the music than to get something released. The live Gathering songs weren't meant by him to be recorded or preserved, but he wouldn't tell anyone they couldn't record. He was too kind and sensitive to others feelings. I have tracks from the initial Gathering and they will not be released. If you were there, you saw and heard a marvelous performance. If you weren't, well you'll just have to imagine it. In a live performance the imperfections are not as noticable, as the emotion of the moment affects our impressions. The cold tape or CD doesn't allow any disguise, however. Some performances were not meant to survive their birth; the Bluebird show was one of those, and I think the Gatherings are even more appropriate for leaving in the can. |
