Message:  I was one year old when WWII started. My uncle, Oliver Cranford from Judsonia Arkansas, fought in the South Pacific. He was one of the fortunate ones who returned home.

He gave my mother a parachute. It was silk. She was so happy sewing blouses and underwear from it. It wasn't white enough to suit her so she put part of it in a pan of bleach water. I will never forget the look on her face when she took it out of the bleach water and it fell to pieces.

Many years later Uncle Oliver told me he carried my picture with him the whole time he was in combat. Although I have never been to those islands he fought on and fought for in the South Pacific, my picture has. I cried when he told me that.

Doug, I am so sorry you did not not get to know your uncle.
