Thought it weird, or should I say Strange, that Karley is having her seventh birthday party today ( although it's not until the 12th) and the theme is a Limbo Party and the main song to be played will be Limbo Rock. Wish Billy were alive so I could email him.
LL
PS: Their new swimming pool is only about a month old and much swimming was planned and there are thunder storms all around us, right now. Party starts in two hours. But, Monica and Billy are ready with alternative plans. |

As he used to like to say, that old song has a life of it's own. You have no idea how much I wish he was still here, too, LL... |

The song was written on a 100 dollar bet that Strange could write a hit song in 5 minutes with a buddy while riding in his car. Strange indeed penned the song under 5 minutes, won the bet, and collected the 100 bucks. Over time, the Tequilas managed to break the top 40 with the tune, and Chubby Checker almost topped the Top 40 charts with it as well. Strange received a check for $62,000 one day in the mail from ASCAP, and, never making anywhere near that money before, thought it must have been a mistake. He called ASCAP mentioning the probability that there was a huge error, and they asked him if he wrote the song. He mentioned he did, they mentioned it charted twice, and that he certainly had the money coming. All from that 5 minute song...
The above is from Wikip...a. From Gerry.

Worth noting, Billy did write this as described... on a bet, but only the melody that night, which he jokingly titled "Monotonous Melody". According to him, it was Chubby Checker's manager, Jon Sheldon, who asked permission to add the lyrics and is credited. The instrumental version was by the Champs (who had a hit titled "Tequila"). The Ventures, Telstars (Worlds Longest Limbo Record), and Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass also covered it as well.
