| Thanks Craig and all who have contributed lyrics to this thread. I wanted to bring it back to the front page for some Newbies. |

There have been quite a few requests for lyrics at Mickey's myspace site, and I've tried to help directly or provide links to this topic. Maybe it's time, if someone wants to take it on, to organize the addition of a Lyrics link to Mickey's home page.

Doug, I wouldn't be adversely opposed to stewarding something along those lines just as long as it was with the blessings of the Newbury family.

I was hoping you might say that, Craig! I'll e-mail Susie if you haven't already. If there's a lot of typing involved, I'm sure there are a half-dozen or more of us who'd volunteer to type up a few lyrics apiece to aid in the project.

Well the cold hardwood's creakin As he lay asleep His breathin' is all I heard I stood at the foot of his bed, he awakened I stood and I said not one word I took from my pocket an old silver dollar The date on it could not be read I put the dollar in his withered old hand And I put a gun to his head Lord he trembled in terror And clutching the covers Cried Jessie what is your demand I said in a voice less than a whisper Said I would find you old man
Well I did not kill him But I swore I would When I saw him the next time around I said you are no stranger I have known you forever And you will remember me now So I packed all my gear And went up to the mountains I needed the time there to heal And I swore on the grave Of my brother that day That was one man I would kill
From memory, hope I didnt screw it up.Put this on the front porch, figured it fit here too.

She’s my baby once in a while she’s a lady But the lady don’t smile too much lately The lady’s got the blues
Lord I need her when she’s not around I will see her the next time she’s down When the baby in my lady gets her blues
When the baby in my lady remembers someone is waiting To hold her, not to scold her, for what she has done
I need her when she’s not around But I will see her the next time she’s down When the baby in my lady gets the blues
If she needs me how could I mind When she leaves me oh she is fine When she needs me when my Baby’s got the blues She’s my baby and once in a while she’s a lady But the lady don’t smile too much lately The lady’s got her blues

Maybe the first Mickey song I ever learned to play, Craig. Being only about 18, I remember thinking at the time: "This is so Country and I don't think I'm Country; Why do I like it so much?"

This mornin' at dawn Lord I pulled into town Had some coffee and talked with some old friends of mine
Laughin' at all the good times they remembered And then I remembered the time... |

Jeff, When I first heard this song I thought of Buddy Holly and some of the others during that time in music. To me, it just has that feel to it. It also makes me wonder when Mickey wrote it. I have no way of knowing but I am sure someone does.

Awe, Laura...that line is the one that really hit home. I was there, right when I heard it. "Like a feather in the wind". Lost with no direction, not knowing what I needed to do. A desert wanderer in need of an anchor. You have no idea.

I wasn't a 'desert wanderer' but my "dear" friend in high school was finding his way in Phoenix back in the mid-late 60's. Planning for our 2000 high school class reunion he told me the story, I went to the CD store and listened....with tears flowing, I ordered It Might As Well Be The Moon. And, I was the happy winner of the Poison Red Berries picture Jackie brought for the auction in 2004, my first trip to the Gathering. Bree, do you have some kleenex handy? Alaska Shirley

Better leave out the pictures Barbra. You don't need them and they will kill your imagination... |
