Jorg! I'm so glad you accepted our invitation! Thank you for the intro! I'll give a brief one... I'm Mickey's youngest daughter. I am 18 and I live in Michigan right now for school, but I am moving back to Oregon in June to live with my family again. I enjoy a lot of the same music as you -- I have been listening to Leonard Cohen a lot lately!
My sister lived in Frankfurt for two years, and I hope to visit Germany someday. I took two years of a German language class, and got a lot out of it! Mein Deutsch ist nicht schlecht, aber nicht fantastisch! *grin* Hope that made sense!! And I hope to see you around again soon!

Du sagst, daß du dich schwer tust Englisch zu schreiben....Ich bin Engländerin und du kannst dir nicht vorstellen wie schwer ich mich tue Amerikanisches Englisch zu verstehen!

Welcome to our little (and Growing) family..I am Lib and my daughter,Bobbie is 10.From time to time,you will see my mom post(that's Shirley).My brother,RB,played harmonica with Mickey for awhile.He is living in Berlin now...if that is not far from you or if you wish, I will send you his phone number and you can get in touch with him.He plays there locally....

(that's why they aren't in my sentences ...) - and you handled it just

visit the Oktoberfest??) - hope you will come around here! We have
enough space for 4 (or so) to do a (or so) overnight stay.

Wish we were in Hamburg and I could show you all my hiding places to cry with you ...
When I went six I got articular rheumatism in all joints - so a lot of time in my
childhood and teenage time I stayed in a few hospitals and at cures all around in
Germany. Every time I went away from home it feels like I lost my family. And every
time I moved back to Hamburg I lost a friends - just by life ...
I never cried and after some times of this changing game I made no more friends
in hospitals and stayed all day long in my room at my families house.
Just me, "my" music and the books or candlelight ...
Meanwhile I found my tears and years ago I wrote some poems to help and to
understand what happens with the boy in me ...

are on your way. Nobody can go this way for you - but maybe here and there we
can help you carry on ...

Jörg....you must be joking! Poems are the worst things to translate into another language. Such a lot gets lost in the translation that it wouldn`t do your lovely poems justice. Doug seems to have some Rilke translations but I don`t know if he did them himself...if he did then he must be very talented.
Thanks for saying goodnight and sweet dreams...that`s what my dad used to say everynight when he came upstairs to tuck me in when I was a child....over forty years and sweet dreams away. |

(BTW - do you know that he's a Mickey Newbury fan, Texas Granny?
(I guess you wrote one time that you remember Sam Neely from Corpus
Christi and wonder what he's doing - he's still there and producing
and made a new CD last year. But, to be honest - I like his music
from the 70s much more. Seems he losts the passion in his voice.
But that's just very subjective ... Just my feeling ...)),

I know! That's why I just don't try it! I had no problem (I guess ...) to
translate it from english to german and "transform" it to a good poem
again. But that's hard enough! (And yes, you're right, seems to be a
good translation!)
I'm glad, I found the right words ad hoc!!
So if you allow I wish you here and now again a "Good night and
sweet dreams!" We're allowed to rest  while our friends have to stay at work or school!

That's not hard to explain: That are just great artists that we like!
I 'met' Sam just as unspectacular as Mick: I was in a 2nd hand record
store (badly they don't produce LPs anymoe here in Germany) and saw
him sitting in his bus (the cover of his "2") and he looks likeable.
And the price much more - just 1,- US$ ;-{) (of course 2,- DM).
For that I had to pay for the next LP of him 20,-US$. - It was the
"Long Road To Texas" and a dealer bought it for me in the States.
It was the release before he had a hit with "Loving You Just Crossed
My Mind" and there are only ca. 10.000 copies made. They renamed
the LP and changed two tracks. So Sam Neely gave me the cheapest
and the most expensive LP ...
Mick was just the same: I went to a record store from whom I won
18 Willie Nelson LPs at eBay. He had a few other country LPs and
there was the "I Came To Hear The Music". And I liked him (looks
a bit like my oldest brother ...) thought "OK, let me know what
you've felt and what you made out of it!" (My thoughts really were
in english!). And hearing "If You See Her" I was hooked ...
(that idiom I learnd from you guys!!)

Another point to let me buy (for me) unknown artists is when
they wrote their own songs. Sometimes it's for store it in the
last corner - but most times I have luck.

I read your message with keen interest. In the 1980 -90's I had many correspondences with Germans, and visited Germany many times. Bavaria was always my favorite kingdom, so each visit started or ended there. My second ex- was a student from Kopenik, Ost Berlin. My first was a student from Politechnika Gdanska, Polen. So, I am fairly familiar with "English that is learned by Polish or Germans".
Your English is good. Von dem Hertz. ("Meine Deutsch ist nicht seht gut. Ich bin ein Schtudent auf Deutsch fur vielen jahren, aber dass was vielen jahren alt.").
Your last name says you were a Polish or Czech crossover. Saretzki is Polish, as my name Latunski (Latosinski). Sanya (Polish Sonja) and Cedric are Slavic names.
I believe we have much more in commen than you might believe. Walfahrt's shop in Rothenberg aub dem Tauber ist fantastische, und das Gluewein von dem Weihnacht Markt is SUPER.

I guess, 3 generations before my forefathers came somewhere from Poland (then called "Ost-Preußen") to Berlin. My mother then went from Berlin to Hamburg.
Sanya: I got a phone call when I worked in Hamburg at work from a woman who I had to pay something. Her name was "Tonja" soandso ... You must now, the German word for butt is Faß or Tonne. So I talked to my wife at the evening - how can parents name her daughter TONja?? What, if she becomes a little bit chubby?? All the other kids will laugh at her and call her "Tonne!"
And I mentioned that the name of a colleague of me is Tarja. Then we were fooling around with the names - Tarja, Tonja, Sonja, Sandra, Sanya, Torja, Tandra - uuups - Sanya? That sounds good! So we found the finest name for a girl in this world!
That was 1993 or 1994, I guess. She was born 1996 ...
Then she came 10 days too late - just on MY birthday! So she had to get a name with a J.S. in it. And my wife was very, very happy that it was a girl. So what's nearer than to give her the middle name "Joy"?
BTW we used to call our baby Mariposita before she was born because we didn't really know if it will be a boy or a girl. Mariposita is spanish and means "little Butterfly". A butterfly could stand for a girl because it's a very filigree creature. And in German it's "DER Schmetterling" - so it's male.
(Another reason was that always in my imagination (when I was a kid) a girl existed who's name was butterfly ... And I was very sure it will be a girl.)
Cédric: That was more difficult. There's no name for a boy like the name we found for our girl. I was searching for a name that sounds French. Like Jerôme or something like that. Then I read a book about the celts and the name Cedric was mentioned - and I thought that's a name I would like to call my son ...
Shawn because I felt the name Cédric is a very strong name. So to give it a balance and softness ...
Hopefully one day we're together at a Weihnachtsmarkt - you drinking a hot Glühwein and for me a cold Coke!
