It doesn't seem possible that we are in the planning stage for the 5th Gathering since Mickey left us. Each one has taken on its own personality...each has had its own special moments...and each has grown a little more that the one before. The fact is that this could be the last Gathering in this wonderful hotel because we have almost outgrown it's capacity.

Check in here in a few days for all of the information regarding G-7.

THE MICKEY NEWBURY GATHERING VII, WILL BE HELD ON JUNE 29TH, JUNE 30TH AND JULY 1ST AT THE HOWARD JOHNSON'S HOTEL AND CONVENTION CENTER, 7800 NORTH INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 35, IN AUSTIN, TEXAS.

For the 5th year in a row, there will be no increase in room rates at the hotel. $69.00 a day is our special rate. Reservations may be made by calling toll free: 1-866-661-6611. Be sure and tell the hotel that you are with the Mickey Newbury Gathering. You may have up to four individuals in each room at that price. A free buffet breakfast is included. The main number for the hotel is 512-836-8520.

The official Gathering opening will be on Friday night at 7:00 PM, however, as most of you who have attended a Gathering in the past know, there are many things going on before that offical opening. Room 155 will be open from Wednesday evening through Sunday evening with snacks, soft drinks, coffee and beer...all Free.

With your Gathering Registration, you will receive a free meal on Friday night, free lunch and supper on Saturday and Sunday.

The actual Registration fee has not yet been set, but every effort will be made to keep it in the $40.00 to $50.00 range.

We expect a record number of singers, songwriters and Porch People this year, so get your reservations made as soon as possible.

There will be additional information, lists of those planning to attend and special entertainment posted in the near future. For those who have asked, Barb & Felix will handle the food again this year, Larry & Gail Book will be in charge of the entertainment, Susan Williamson and Roy Stamps will act as co-chairpersons, Ron Lyons will be our MC as long as his voice holds out, and others have agreed to help out in their special areas.

Many of the folks from the Frank Brown Festival has indicated that they will return. Waylon Payne will be back, and my cuz, Todd Agnew wants to join the fun is his schedule permits. Did you know that Waylon and Todd were roomates in college?

Check in here from time to time for more info.

Thanks Roy for the information...I just made mine. In order to get the $69.00 room rate, one must call the hotel directly (otherwise a $79.00 rate will be quoted). The direct number is: 1-512-836-8520.

I'll check with Rosemary in the morning. You should be able to get the room rate on the 800 number.

Roy, when I called the '800' number I was given a $79.00 room rate; when I questioned him about it, I was told to call the hotel in Austin. When I spoke to registration at the '512' number in Austin, the rate had to be changed to $69.00 for the Gathering. Please correct me if I was given the wrong information.

As the front porch post was archived, it's repeated here:

Our beloved photo-rapper will be honored in Austin, during the time of the gathering. Phil Weedon's photo of Townes Van Zandt will be exhibited at The Wyndham Garden Hotel, just 10 minutes away from the gathering hotel. The purpose of the exhibit is "to honor and promote Austin musicians, and it will be available for public viewing at no charge." As part of “Essential Austin Musicians,” Phil's work will be displayed in a 30” x 24” format.

The Wyndham Hotel manager, Mr. Allan Reagan, has promised to roll out the red carpet to anyone from our group who visits the exhibit.
